Bilbo Baggins famously said that he was “quite ready for another adventure.” But what is an adventure? What does adventure mean to you? Does it mean trekking across India in the Rickshaw Run? Jumping off of a platform in New Zealand, only to spring back up and down a few times? Hitchhiking your way across China?

While all of these adventures sound pretty exciting, they don’t exclusively define what an adventure is.

Think about it. Have you heard the phrase, “Life is full of adventure?” Or how about describing someone as living “an adventurous life?” Does that mean extreme sports every day? Risking your life and pushing the boundaries of what is physically possible for you?

Or does it simply mean trying something new? Exploring a new place? Getting out of your comfort zone?

The “OFFICIAL” Definition:

Definition of adventure from dictionary.com

Sounds pretty good, right? Dictionary.com does a great job with their definition, but I think we can do one better.

My Redefined Definition:

our definition of adventure

Adventures don’t have to be dangerous. You don’t have to fear for your life. You don’t have to go shark-diving or sail around the world solo.

Adventure is all about attitude. Trying something new, or trying something differently than before. Getting out of your comfort zone. Willfully choosing to walk an unknown path.

Adventure requires a certain amount of bravery. Daring to step into that new restaurant in your hometown where you can’t pronounce the items on the menu. Choosing to take the local form of transportation instead of hiring a car. Booking a spontaneous holiday to a new destination with a new travel companion.

Adventure Looks Different For Everyone

Not everyone can/wants to/is able to travel. Not everyone wants to feel their heart pounding in their throat as they peer over a tall waterfall, ready to jump. And you know what?

THAT’S OKAY!

Adventure is never far away. In your home state. Country. Even your current home town. You can have adventures every day without risking your life, spending away your life savings, or having to fly halfway across the world.

My mission with Adventure is Never Far Away is to not only help you understand what an adventure actually is, but:

To teach and inspire you to have adventures in your everyday life.

To give you a sense of fulfillment and memories to last a lifetime.

To encourage you to try new things.

To learn how to get exposed to new ideas and thoughts.

To offer ways to break up your day-to-day routine.

To show you how to build your own adventure, no matter where you are in life or in the world.

To prove that ANYONE can have an adventurous life.

To demonstrate, through stories and experiences, that having adventures adds color and flavor to your existence.

And finally, to illustrate how you cultivate the types of adventures that YOU want to have – not the ones that society feels you need to experience. Doing things based on your own preferences. Discovering what excites you the most and drives you to be a better person.

So let me ask you this question: How do YOU adventure?

How do you go about finding your style? Are you the kind of person who likes to swim with whale sharks, eat scorpions and bugs, or climb a volcano? Or are you the type of person who gets a thrill from trying a new local restaurant, visit all of the museums in your hometown, and see how many weekend road trips you can take from your current home? Or are you a mixture of both?

Unsure of your style? DON’T WORRY! This website is here to help!

If you are still in that mode of self-discovery, ask yourself – when was the last time you felt the thrill of adventure?

The last time your heart pounded before you embarked on something new: stepping into that ethnic market, purchasing that plane ticket, ventured further away from home than you ever have before.

Need Inspiration?

Sometimes it’s hard to come up with ideas on our own, without any external influences. And that’s okay! When I first traveling and seeking adventures, I had no idea what I was doing. I finally met someone who had the adventurous spirit and she became my guru. Let this website become your guru.
